IL-1-Targeted Therapy in Autoinflammatory Diseases

The autoinflammatory diseases are a newly defined group of inflammatory disorders characterized by recurrent bouts of systemic inflammation. The elucidation of the molecular basis of these disorders has begun to shed light on the tightly regulated pathways involved in cytokine-mediated inflammation. This article examines the latest discoveries in this area, in particular advances in IL-1-targeted therapy and its implications for clinical management.

Standards of Care in Rheumatoid Arthritis

The development of clinical practice guidelines and recommendations, and sets of standards of care and quality indicators, are common strategies for improving the quality of healthcare. This article reviews the guidelines for the management of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and suggests that instituting quantative measurements of treatment quality could have a beneficial impact on clinical care.

Clinical Management of Fibromyalgia

Fibromyamlgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain, tenderness, insomnia, and fatigue, with a high prevalence in those with rheumatic conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus and Sjögren’s syndrome. This article reviews our current understanding the pathogenesis of the condition, and the pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment strategies available.
